The brief

FoodCycle is a national charity who tackle food waste and provide a meal for guests who struggle to afford the basics to eat and those who eat alone without company or conversation.

They do this by using surplus food from supermarkets to cook three course meals for people living in food poverty. FoodCycle is an expanding charity serving community meals across the country and needed to refresh their website to help them engage better with their volunteers, supporters and guests. The website no longer reflected or supported their vision and rate of growth.

Our solution

The FoodCycle brand is well-received and is fun, attractive and engaging. We brought this to life by giving the site a stronger brand presence by using the fun and organic nature of the identity across the user experience. The online presence needed to portray the charity as a responsive, proactive and fun organisation to volunteer with, fundraise for and donate to. The personality allowed us to improve the location map search and how the community hubs were represented.

The website had become bloated with information and had become difficult to navigate. We looked at the various user journeys of the key audiences from individual donors, potential volunteers, potential franchise partners and corporate partners. By simplifying the site architecture we were able to define the information need and implement clear call to actions.

The website now gives an important insight into the charity’s award winning work and provides them with a confident platform to communicate to prospective partners, supporters and volunteers and supports their continued growth. The site is built in WordPress and allows the busy FoodCycle team to update all aspects.
