The brief
WheelPower is the national charity for wheelchair sport. Based in Stoke Mandeville Stadium, WheelPower is at the heart of wheelchair sport, dedicated to providing opportunities for disabled people to enjoy sport and live healthy active lives.
WheelPower approached us to refresh their website to help them provide, promote and develop opportunities for wheelchair users to move more, play sport and get active. WheelPower provides wide‐ranging opportunities for people with physical impairments to take part in sport for rehabilitation, competition and fun.
www.wheelpower.org.ukOur solution
The website had a huge amount of information that had become difficult to find. We looked at the structure of the site making sure the sporting content was easier to find and rearranged the large menu into a simpler configuration that divided the content into areas for each audience type: people wanting to get active; supporters; and visitors wanting to find out more about the organisation. We focused on making sure the wide programme of events, classes, games and festivals were front and centre and developed a design that provided clear call to actions and supporting relevant information to help navigate people around the site.
One of the main areas of the site was the Find a Sport or Activity feature which allows WheelPower to promote every wheelchair sport opportunity and provide links to the national governing bodies for each sport. This aspect of the website needed to house various levels of information and signposting so we created a modular design to allow maximum flexibility. Another important feature was the integration with Donorfy. The regular event and online class programme needed to link to the charity’s CRM system and capture rich database records for participants across both free and paid for event entries, class registration forms, newsletter signups and donations.
WheelPower had a great library of photography that provided us with a wealth of engaging imagery to create a powerful design. With a mobile first approach we created a bright and easy to navigate website that provides WheelPower a way to increase engagement with their audience and allow them to communicate the powerful work they do, enriching lives by supporting and promoting participation at all levels.
The services we delivered for the website refresh included:
Our primary aim was to stop using third party websites for event bookings, host them on our website and link them to our CRM system. We also wanted to automate a number of processes, be better optimised for mobile, improve SEO, readability and make it look "lovely". Emma and the team guided us through every stage of the process and delivered everything we wanted (and more). I learnt so much working with them.
